A single specification for the whole low-carbon family
ASME SB-575 is the flat-rolled product specification for the low-carbon nickel-chromium-molybdenum family. It covers plate, sheet and strip of UNS N10276 (C-276), N06022 (C-22), N06455, N06035, N06044, N06058, N06059, N06200 (Alloy 2000), N06210, N10362 and N06686 (Alloy 686). Because every one of those grades shares this specification, a vessel built from C-276 barrel plate and C-276 tube can draw on a single material framework, which is what most EPC contractors prefer when they write the material requisition.
All material under this specification is supplied solution annealed and descaled, unless the solution anneal is performed in an atmosphere yielding a bright finish. That last point is worth flagging because it affects whether you receive a bright or an oxide-free pickled surface, and in some corrosion applications the surface condition is as important as the chemistry.

C-276 carries the highest tungsten of the three and the lowest chromium, which is the combination that gives it the best resistance to reducing acids including hydrochloric and sulphuric. C-22 trades tungsten for chromium and gains markedly better resistance to oxidising media such as wet chlorine, hypochlorite and nitric acid. Alloy 2000 adds copper and nitrogen for sulphuric acid. All three share the same tensile strength, so the choice rests entirely on the medium.
Thickness range and product forms
Plate is material 3/16 in (4.76 mm) and over in thickness, supplied hot rolled. Cold-rolled plate runs 3/16 in to 3/8 in (4.76 to 9.52 mm) inclusive. Sheet is supplied hot rolled and cold rolled from 0.018 in to 0.250 in (0.46 to 6.4 mm) in thickness, and cold-rolled strip from 0.005 in to 0.250 in (0.13 to 6.4 mm). Material between 3/16 in and 1/4 in (4.8 to 6.4 mm) in thickness may be furnished as sheet or plate provided the material meets the mechanical requirements for the condition ordered. Material under 48 in (1219 mm) in width may be furnished as sheet or strip where the material satisfies the specification for the condition ordered.
Beyond standard plate and sheet we supply fabricated items from this material, including vessel heads, cone and dish sections, wear plates, electrode sleeves and lined components. Flatness, edge conditioning and surface finish can be specified to your drawing.
Certification and inspection
Every order ships with an EN 10204 3.1 material test report carrying the heat number, the SB-575 Table 1 chemical analysis for the grade supplied, and the Table 2 mechanical properties. The general requirements for flat-rolled nickel and nickel alloy plate, sheet and strip apply for dimensional tolerances, heat treatment records and general inspection. On request we add intergranular corrosion testing to ASTM G28, ultrasonic testing for internal flaws, and corrosion coupon testing. NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 documentation is available where sour service limits apply. PED 2014/68/EU and UKCA certification of conformity can be issued for European and UK delivery, and third-party inspection is arranged and witnessed before despatch.
Ordering information
Please specify the grade (for example UNS N10276 or N06022), the product form (plate, sheet or strip), the thickness, the width, the length, the surface condition and the quantity. Add the delivery date and destination port, and tell us the certification you need on the paperwork. If the material is for a vessel or an exchanger, tell us the medium, the operating temperature and the chloride or acid concentration, and our technical team will confirm the grade is appropriate before you order. Send drawings or cut lists and we will quote against them with the certificate package stated for each item.
