The Art of Piercing in Seamless Pipes
Seamless steel pipes, known for their high pressure-bearing capacity and uniform structure, remain the top choice for oil & gas extraction and high-pressure boilers. The core process—hot rotary piercing—transforms solid round bars into hollow shells at temperatures exceeding 1200°C. This process demands extremely high internal purity of the billet; any inclusions can lead to piercing defects. The steel mills partnered with Tailan Metal are equipped with advanced NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) facilities, ensuring every seamless pipe complies with international standards such as ASTM A106/53.
The Efficiency Revolution of HFW Pipes
For structural applications and low/medium pressure fluid conveyance, the High-Frequency Welding (HFW) process dominates due to its efficiency and cost control. Leveraging the skin effect and proximity effect of high-frequency current, the edges of the strip steel are rapidly heated to welding temperature and then squeezed to form the pipe. When sourcing HFW pipes, the Tailan team focuses on monitoring the weld seam heat treatment process, as welds are prone to cracking during subsequent cold bending.
