Normalizing: Refining Grains, Homogenizing Structure

For steel requiring subsequent machining, normalizing is a common pretreatment. Heating the round bar above the critical temperature, holding, and then air cooling refines the grains, eliminates rolling stresses, and improves machine-ability. When sourcing round bars, the Tailan team pays special attention to whether the mill has performed standardized normalizing, which is crucial for ensuring the dimensional stability of the final product.

Quenching and Tempering (Q&T): The Golden Combination of Strength and Toughness

For components subjected to alternating loads, such as shafts and connecting rods, Q&T (quenching + high-temperature tempering) is the core process. Taking the Monel 400 round bar as an example, it undergoes solution treatment to obtain a homogeneous austenitic structure. This is followed by aging treatment (or direct use in the solution-annealed condition) to achieve excellent corrosion resistance and moderate to high strength, thus realizing an ideal combination of corrosion resistance and good toughness.

Surface Hardening: Hard Exterior and Tough Core

For parts like gears and rolls requiring wear-resistant surfaces but tough cores, surface hardening processes (carburizing, induction hardening) are indispensable. This requires the round bar itself to have good hardenability and fine grains.
