ASME SB-572 covers four nickel-based alloys in the form of rod for heat-resisting and general-corrosive service: UNS N06002, UNS N06230, UNS N12160, and UNS R30556. These are the alloys behind a large share of high-temperature bolting, spring, and turbine hardware, and this page sets out how to specify them correctly against the ASME system.
SB-572 is one of four related specifications covering this alloy family. SB-435 covers the same four UNS numbers as plate, sheet and strip. SB-564 covers nickel alloy forgings, and the same four grades appear in the fittings grade listing of SB-366. For seamless pipe and tube of the nickel-cobalt group, SB-622 applies, while SB-619 covers the welded equivalent and SB-626 covers welded tube.
| UNS | Alloy Family | Ni | Cr | Mo | W | Co | Fe |

| N06002 | Ni-Cr-Mo-Fe | rem. | 20.5-23.0 | 8.0-10.0 | 0.2-1.0 | 0.5-2.5 | 17.0-20.0 |
| N06230 | Ni-Cr-Mo-W | rem. | 20.0-24.0 | 1.0-3.00 | 13.0-15.0 | 5.0 max | 3.0 max |
| N12160 | Ni-Co-Cr-Si | rem. | 26.0-30.0 | 1.0 max | 1.0 max | 27.0-33.0 | 3.5 max |
| R30556 | Ni-Fe-Cr | 19.0-22.5 | 21.0-23.0 | 2.5-4.0 | 2.0-3.5 | 16.0-21.0 | rem. |
The four grades cluster around the same service window but with different emphases. N06230 carries 13-15 % tungsten, which is what gives it exceptional creep resistance at high temperature. N12160 is a nickel-cobalt-chromium-silicon alloy with roughly 27-33 % cobalt, the highest cobalt content in the group, used where high-temperature modulus and fatigue resistance matter. N06002 is the wrought equivalent of the Alloy 22 family, valued for general corrosive service. R30556 is the iron-rich, cobalt-bearing grade used in furnace hardware and heat-resisting applications.

The element shall be determined arithmetically by difference where the standard so specifies (SB-572 Note A).
Rod from this family is used in high-temperature bolting and studs for steam turbine and boiler service, in valve stems and stem assemblies, in high-temperature springs and seals, in furnace fixtures and radiant tube supports, and in heat-resisting fasteners and clamps for aerospace and chemical process equipment. N06002 rod is additionally used where general corrosive resistance is required alongside elevated temperature, and N12160 rod appears in instrument and control valve components where the high cobalt content supports dimensional stability under thermal cycling.
Material is supplied with a mill test certificate to ASME SB-572 showing heat number, chemical analysis, mechanical properties, heat treatment condition, and dimensions. Annealed alloy (UNS N12160) shall conform to the grain size requirement stated in the specification, which is a meaningful control for hot-formed bar. Supplementary inspection options include ultrasonic testing, eddy current testing, and intergranular corrosion testing. Third-party inspection can be arranged on request.
Please specify the following when requesting a quotation: UNS number (N06002, N06230, N12160 or R30556), product form (rod or bar, hot-finished or cold-drawn), diameter or cross-section, length, condition (annealed, hot-finished, hot-finished and descaled), quantity, destination port, and any required certification or third-party inspection. We will confirm availability, production lead time, and FOB Hefei, China pricing in USD.
