Forged bars are high-quality bars processed through forging technology, featuring dense internal structure, excellent mechanical properties, and good ultrasonic testing pass rates. They are widely used in critical load-bearing components in pressure vessel manufacturing, nuclear power equipment, petrochemical industry, heavy machinery, and aerospace industries. The nickel alloy forged bars supplied by Hefei Tailan Metal Co., Ltd. are manufactured from high-quality nickel-based alloy ingots or continuous casting billets through multiple precision processes including heating, forging, heat treatment, inspection, and machining. Featuring dense structure, no internal defects, uniform properties, and large forgeable sizes, they are specifically designed for demanding applications with extremely high requirements for internal quality and mechanical properties.

Forging Process Advantages:

  1. Open Die Forging: Suitable for single piece, small batch, large size bars
  2. Closed Die Forging: Suitable for mass production, complex shape bars
  3. Rotary Forging: Suitable for high precision, slender bars
  4. Upsetting+Drawing: Fully breaking as-cast structure, improving isotropy

Supply Range

Diameter/Thickness (d): 50mm – 800mm (2 inches – 32 inches)

Length (L): 500mm – 8000mm (customized as per customer requirements)

Shape: Round, Square, Flat, Stepped Shaft

Diameter Tolerance: As Forged: +5mm/-0mm; Rough Machined: +2mm/-0mm; Finish Machined: as per drawing

Forging Ratio: ≥3:1 (ensuring fully broken as-cast structure)

Grain Size: ≥4 grade (can be refined to ≥6 grade upon request)

Ultrasonic Testing: 100% inspection, conforming to ASTM A388 standard, inspection drawings available

Solution/Aging Heat Treatment, Performance Optimized

Various heat treatment conditions available according to material and application requirements:

  1. Solution Annealed: Fully restored corrosion resistance, suitable for most corrosive environments
  2. Age Hardened: For precipitation hardening alloys like Inconel 718, achieving highest strength
  3. Annealed: Low hardness, good workability, suitable for subsequent cold processing

Strict Mechanical Property Testing

Tensile Testing: Room temperature/high temperature tensile, verifying yield strength, tensile strength, elongation

Hardness Testing: Ensuring hardness uniformity

Intergranular Corrosion Testing: Verifying corrosion resistance per ASTM A262 standard

Multiple Delivery Conditions Available

As Forged: Black scale surface, most economical choice

Rough Machined: Surface scale removed, convenient for transportation and subsequent processing

Finish Machined: Machined to final dimensions as per drawings, ready to use

Grade Cross-Reference: Which Specification Governs Your Bar

The trade name on a purchase order is not enough to place an order. Each nickel alloy bar and rod form is governed by its own ASME Section II specification, and quoting the wrong one is the most common reason a mill quote comes back as grade not available. The table below maps the trade names to the UNS number and to the specification that actually covers the bar product form.

Trade nameUNS numberProduct formGoverning specification
Inconel 625 / Alloy 625N06625Rod and barASME SB-446

Nickel 200 / 201N02200 / N02201Rod and barASME SB-160

Note that the same UNS number is covered by different specifications for different product forms. Inconel 625 is SB-446 for rod and bar, SB-444 for pipe and tube, SB-443 for plate, sheet and strip, SB-366 for factory-made wrought fittings and SB-564 for forgings. Always state the product form alongside the grade.

Forged Bar: Material and Dimensional Requirements

Forged nickel alloy bar is covered by a different specification from rolled or drawn bar. ASME SB-564 covers nickel alloy forgings and lists N06625, N04400, N06600, N08800, N08825 and N10276 among the alloys in scope, together with N08367, N06035, N06058, N06059, N06044, N06200, N06210, N06219, N06230, N06603, N06617, N06674, N06686, N06690, N08031, N08034, N08120 and N06022. For precipitation-hardening grades such as Inconel 718, ASME SB-637 covers the bar, the forgings and the forging stock.

The mechanical property requirements of a forged bar are written into the order as well, because a forging is machined from the billet and its properties are a function of the working direction. Forging quality rod is furnished to the chemical requirements and surface inspection only, with no tensile properties required.

Specified Mechanical Properties: Incoloy 825 (UNS N08825)

ASME SB-425 Table 2 sets the mechanical properties of rod and bar. UNS N08825 is covered in the annealed condition, and UNS N08221 in the hot-finished, cold-drawn condition. The elongation requirement does not apply to diameters or cross sections under 3/32 in. (2.4 mm).
