Inconel 625 and Alloy 6219 are nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys supplied as plate, sheet and strip. Both are solid solution strengthened with no age-hardening treatment, and are used where chloride corrosion and high-temperature strength are needed together. This page covers the rolled flat product form to ASME SB-443, including the 625 Grade 1 and 2 distinction.
ASME SB-443 covers rolled nickel-chromium-molybdenum-columbium alloy UNS N06625 and nickel-chromium-molybdenum-silicon alloy UNS N06219 as plate, sheet and strip. Tolerances follow ASME B906. Matching forms:
| Grade | UNS | Ni | Cr | Mo | Nb+Ta | Si | Key Characteristic |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Inconel 625 Gr.1 | N06625 | 58.0 min | 20.0-23.0 | 8.0-10.0 | 3.15-4.15 | 0.50 max | Annealed, higher strength |
| Inconel 625 Gr.2 | N06625 | 58.0 min | 20.0-23.0 | 8.0-10.0 | 3.15-4.15 | 0.50 max | Solution annealed, higher ductility |
| Alloy 6219 | N06219 | 44.5 min | 18.0-22.0 | 7.0-9.0 | — | 0.70-1.10 | Si-bearing, lower Ni, high strength |
| Inconel 600 | N06600 | 72.0 min | 14.0-17.0 | — | — | — | Higher Ni, no Mo |
Alloy 6219 trades roughly 13 percentage points of nickel for 0.7-1.1% silicon. Against Inconel 600, the 8-10% molybdenum raises pitting resistance substantially.
| Element | UNS N06625 (%) | UNS N06219 (%) | Limit Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carbon | 0.10 max | 0.05 max | max |
| Manganese | 0.50 max | 0.50 max | max |
| Silicon | 0.50 max | 0.70-1.10 | range |
| Phosphorus | 0.015 max | 0.020 max | max |
| Sulfur | 0.015 max | 0.010 max | max |
| Chromium | 20.0 min / 23.0 max | 18.0-22.0 | range |
| Columbium + tantalum | 3.15 min / 4.15 max | — | range |
| Cobalt (if determined) | 1.0 max | 1.0 max | max |
| Molybdenum | 8.0 min / 10.0 max | 7.0-9.0 | range |
| Iron | 5.0 max | 2.0-4.0 | range |
| Aluminum | 0.40 max | 0.50 max | max |
Niobium plus tantalum stabilises 625, while silicon strengthens 6219. Iron is 5.0% maximum in 625 and 2.0-4.0% in 6219.
| Grade | Product | Condition | Tensile, min ksi (MPa) | Yield 0.2%, min ksi (MPa) | Elongation, min % |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| N06625 Gr.1 | Cold-rolled sheet and strip | Annealed | 120 (827) | 60 (414) | 30 |
| N06625 Gr.1 | Hot-rolled sheet and hot-rolled plate up to 2.75 in. (70 mm) | Annealed | 110 (758) | 55 (379) | 30 |
| N06625 Gr.1 | Cold-rolled plate up to 0.375 in. (9.5 mm) | Annealed | 110 (758) | 55 (379) | 30 |
| N06625 Gr.2 | Cold-rolled sheet and strip, hot-rolled sheet, cold-rolled plate, hot-rolled plate | Solution annealed | 100 (690) | 40 (276) | 30 |
| N06219 | All plate, sheet and strip | Solution annealed | 96 (660) | 39 (270) | 30 |
Grade 1 is annealed at 1600°F (871°C) minimum; Grade 2 is solution annealed, giving lower tensile and yield figures with greater ductility. Grade 1 cold-rolled sheet and strip, at 120 ksi (827 MPa) tensile, is the strongest condition.
The split matters when a design relies on minimum strength. Grade 2 suits pressure vessel fabrication, welding and forming, and is what most suppliers supply when no grade is stated. State the grade explicitly if the design needs Grade 1.
SB-443 Table 1 gives the product ranges against ASME B906 tables: hot-rolled plate 3/16 in. (4.8 mm) and over; cold-rolled plate 3/16 to 3/8 in. (4.8 to 9.5 mm) inclusive; hot-rolled and cold-rolled sheet 0.018 to 0.250 in. (0.46 to 6.4 mm) inclusive; cold-rolled strip 0.005 to 0.250 in. (0.13 to 6.4 mm) inclusive. Material between 3/16 and 1/4 in. (4.8 and 6.4 mm) may be furnished as sheet or plate provided it meets the condition ordered.
Material is supplied with a mill test certificate per EN 10204 3.1 unless otherwise specified. Available inspection items include:
